USGS Putting 250,000 Historical Topographic Maps Online

Article conveying the announcement by the USGS that they are making 250,000 topographic maps available online, allowing users to view topographical changes over an extended period of time.  The downside is that they are all in the GeoPDF format, requiring a special download from TerraGo Technologies.

States Line Up Against AT&T's T-Mobile Acquisition

Opposition to the proposed purchase of T-Mobile by AT&T got a bit larger on Friday as attorney generals in seven states voiced their support for the suit filed by the Department of Justice. The seven states are New York, California, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Massachusetts, Ohio, and Washington.

But most people won't care. What's most exciting is that it comes close to matching the iPad experience for a fraction of the price-$199 compared to $499 for the basic iPad 2-and it offers easy access to Amazon's vast array of digital content.

GIS: A Powerful Post Earthquake Tool

Having lived my entire life, thus far, amongst Midwestern states, like Michigan and Nebraska, or the Mid-Atlantic states, like Virginia and North Carolina, I have never found myself in a position where knowledge of, or experience with, earthquakes was very important to me, personally. That all changed on the 23rd of August when a 5.9 magnitude earthquake occurred in Central Virginia.
